Job Description:JOB OVERVIEW
The Principal is the chief academic officer for Sims-Fayola International Academy- Denver (SFIAD), an urban charter school serving male students in grades 6 - 12. The Principal is responsible for setting a powerful vision for student achievement and motivating others to follow that vision, and strategically implementing the school's mission through effective leadership and management of the school's students and staff. The Principal’s leadership will result in an instructional program and school environment that prepares every student for success in college and in life. The Principal reports to the Executive Director and is fully accountable for the achievement of academic objectives established in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create, promote and maintain a learning environment of engagement, respect and personal responsibility;
• Maintain and support high expectations for all students, with the ultimate goal of raising student achievement;
• Develop and retain a high performance and creative team of teachers;
• Consider and adopt new approaches to teaching, team collaboration and intensive professional development in the best interests of students;
• Create/monitor curriculum that aligns to: Colorado State Standards, ACT College Readiness Standards and IB Diploma Program requirements;
• Design effective formative and summative assessments that align to the above standards;
• Use data to drive instructional practices;
• Provide instructional leadership for the school site, including: maintaining school-wide focus on high standards of student achievement and supporting all teachers in their professional development.
• Manage all human resources at the school site, including: attracting and selecting high performing staff; providing professional development opportunities; developing a collaborative team culture; managing performance; and, adhering to state/federal employment laws.
• Manage daily operations – facilities, safety, compliance, and administrative processes – including: addressing issues and problems that arise in a principle-centered, creative, thoughtful and constructive way; following-up with constituents as needed; working closely with the Executive Director and other Principals on best practices, and seeking outside support as appropriate.
• Effectively use scheduled testing and remediation periods to gather data and improve student performance;
• Commit to modeling SFIAD’s Core Values, and mentoring students’ character development;
• Communicate effectively with parents, students and colleagues.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Curriculum planning and implementation;
• Academic staff hiring, training, management, evaluation and replacement;
• Teacher coaching and development;
• Quality assurance of teacher’s long term lesson planning;
• Coordinating/Delivery of professional development sessions;
• Student achievement and assessments;
• Maintenance of academic lessons learned and “good” practices
• Student service acquisition, oversight, assessment and replacement;
• Develop and maintain education collaborations and engagement opportunities for students and teachers, both domestic and international;
• Student performance monitoring, analysis, reporting and action plans;
• Drive performance expectations;
• Parent engagement in support of academic goals, school improvement and SFIAD’s mission and vision;
• Student behavioral development;
• Student, staff and school celebrations;
• Sustainability of school academic improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with teaching strategies for English Language Learners;
• Fluent in Spanish; (Preferable)
• Belief in and alignment with SFIAD’s Core Values and Vision;
• Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
• Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects;
• Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player;
• A minimum of 3-5 years teaching in an urban public school or charter school setting with demonstrated exemplary student results.
• Experience starting or founding a school is a plus.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Principal;
• Bachelor Degree required.
