Job Description: REPORTS TO: SCHOOL DIRECTOR
JOB GOAL: Provide support and guidance to teachers to strengthen instruction across the campus; assist the School Director in ensuring that West Denver Prep SMART educators are highly impactful and produce outstanding results. Provide leadership on issues of curriculum, assessment, instruction, and staff development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
Master’s (Preferred) from an accredited educational institution.
Experience: At least three years of exemplary teaching.
Experience in administration and/or supervision.
Previous instructional leadership experience.
Special Knowledge/Skills:

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Organizational Management and Communication
- Assist in and provide input to determine strategic objectives for West Denver Prep SMART as they relate to the implementation of our academic program;
- Serve on the Administrative Leadership Team;
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Administrative Leadership Team to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and general support for the academic program on our campus and across the West Denver Prep network;
- Report on the status of curriculum and instructional programs at the request of the School Director or Chief Executive Officer;
- Provide leadership as a member of a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instructional initiatives are scholar focused and aligned with our mission and beliefs and school goals and improvement plans;
- Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of West Denver Prep SMART to the staff, scholars, parents, and outside community.
Supervision and Personnel Management
- Manage Department Heads, including calendar construction for and facilitation with regular Department Head Meetings, attending specific department meetings when appropriate, and meeting regularly with Department Heads to review teacher performance and curricular development in partnership with the School Director;
- Manage instructional staff, including helping to facilitate mid-year meetings and providing input into growth plans and summative evaluations in partnership with the School Director;
- Assist individual members of instructional staff in developing professional growth/plans, setting realistic improvement goals, and attending professional conferences/workshops as time and funds allow.
Curricular and Instructional Management:
- With the School Director, set clear expectations and standards for excellent teaching in all content areas;
- Assist School Director in ensuring outstanding instructional quality in all classes by:
(a) observing classroom instruction educators, as identified by the School Director, at least once per quarter;
(b) conducting pre- and post-observation conferences with educators within one week of scheduled observation;
(c) providing both oral and written feedback to educators about their classroom performance;
(d) conferencing with educators about instructional planning and assessment;
(e) working with School Director and Department Heads to develop action plans for teachers to facilitate constant learning and growth; and
(f) working with School Director and Department Heads to develop growth plans for teachers who do not meet performance standards.
- Help teachers use assessment data to improve the quality and scope of their instruction by:
(a) analyzing scholar performance data in each content area across grade levels and analyzing student performance between cohort groups within each grade level in order to analyze and identify areas for targeted instruction and best practices sharing;
(b) comparing data from state and national tests to the West Denver Prep SMART Interim Assessment Program to help further refine the WDP SMART assessment portfolio;
(c) preparing reports to disseminate to staff about scholar performance;
(d) working with educators to set clear, measurable goals for scholar performance.
- Assist School Director in monitoring West Denver Prep SMART record keeping by
(a) Meeting with educators to review course materials, binders (physical or digital) and ensuring that they are being maintained in a way that facilitates use by other educators
(b) Ensuring that course materials are archived each year
(c) Coordinating distribution of the following course materials at the beginning of the year to educators new to West Denver Prep SMART or to educators teaching a new course:
- teacher’s edition of textbook
- curriculum
- course binder
- course assessments
- Ensure consistency of standards among and between departments by regularly reviewing lesson and unit plans and by examining summative assessments, including written tests, presentations, papers, and projects;
- Work with School Director to provide targeted support to first and second year teachers; and
- Recommend improvements in the design and implementation of the West Denver Prep SMART instructional program based on research and student achievement data.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in teaching strategies and the learning process;
- Keep well-informed about current trends in curriculum and best instructional practices;
- Assist in planning and delivering instructional training modules and staff development workshops to WDP SMART educators during the beginning-of-year summer institute as well as select professional development (both full and early dismissal) days throughout the school year;
- Serve as part of WDP professional development team: work with WDP Specialists, Chief Curriculum Officer, and other leadership members to prepare and facilitate professional development opportunities for educators across the network at least once per semester;
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills and further develop school goals and personnel; and
- Attend meetings and conferences which promote professional growth and will benefit the campus and district.
Other
- Serve as Site Assessment Leader (SAL) for all testing programs at the state, district, and national level;
- Provide leadership in identifying and acquiring appropriate teaching materials, textbooks, and equipment;
- Serve on the campus hiring committee and assist in the selection and placement of instructional personnel;
- Upon request, serve as Acting Director in the absence of the School Director;
- Teach two to four class periods daily; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by School Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: DOI will serve on the administrative leadership team.
