Job Description: JOB GOAL: Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program that teaches, maintains, and improves the West Denver Prep SMART college preparatory culture at the campus level. Provide a support program that will maximize personal growth and development and assist all scholars in achieving optimal academic success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree (required)
Experience: Must have an exemplary teaching record at a West Denver Prep campus for at least 3 years or at a comparable school setting outside of West Denver Prep.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of and belief in the West Denver Prep SMART culture;
- Ability to model and teach the West Denver Prep SMART culture to scholars, staff, and parents;
- Excellent communication (bilingual in Spanish), public relations, and interpersonal skills with scholars and adults;
- Exemplary level of cultural competence and resolve for empowering first-generation college-bound scholars and their families.
MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Management:
- Create, implement, and evaluate a program that effectively teaches the West Denver Prep SMART culture to incoming high school scholars;
- Create, implement, and evaluate a program that effectively maintains and improves the West Denver Prep SMART culture to returning high school scholars for 2013-2014;
- Create, implement, and evaluate a system of accountability for high school scholars and staff that ensure the West Denver Prep SMART culture is consistently taught, reinforced, and maintained;
- Create, implement, and evaluate high school grade-level programs that increase scholar motivation and reduce disciplinary and academic probation referrals;
- Create, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program of personal guidance that will assist scholars in achieving optimal academic success;
- Process all high school discipline issues beyond the STRIVE Rubric System;
- Manage all high school grade-level chairs and ensure effective communication between grade level teams, scholars, and parents;
- Manage the high school academic probation program;
- Lead in developing high school parent/scholar orientation materials;
- Develop, implement, and manage Delta Lunch and Delta Hour as well as the STRIVE Saturday Academy;
- Coordinate all Saturday school events and schedules;
- Lead in developing high school orientation and registration materials;
- Develop, lead, and manage the West Denver Prep SMART Scholar Congreso.
Scholar Management:
- Investigate and resolve all high school scholar disciplinary matters;
- Lead individual and small group meetings with scholars when necessary;
- Track and manage high school scholar discipline records;
- Lead in creating programs to address specific disciplinary issues that arise throughout the year;
- Lead in coordinating schoolwide events such as all school/grade level field trips, award ceremonies, Community Meeting, and Service-Project Learning;
- Coordinate with the School Director and ensure successful tracking and management of scholar eligibility for school-related athletics and events;
- Manage the high school STRIVE Study Hall periods before and after school to ensure that scholars both attend and maximize their learning during these sessions;
- Ensure that all students are meeting the West Denver Prep SMART graduation requirements.
School/Organizational Climate:
- Live out the STRIVE Core Values for our educational collective; be a positive role model that supports the West Denver Prep SMART mission; leverage difficult conversations with unconditional resolve and support to empower our scholars;
- Advocate for scholars when school-wide policies, practices, and procedures are being developed;
- Coordinate a continuing evaluation of outside guidance services and implement revisions based on findings;
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance their ability to impact scholar success at West Denver Prep SMART;
- Demonstrate skill in conflict-resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, and/or the community;
- Supervise West Denver Prep SMART scholar registration.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible;
- Participate in and lead workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance counseling knowledge and skills.
