JOB GOAL:  Through a challenging and relevant liberal arts education of high standards, structure, and accountability, West Denver Prep SMART Educators will prepare our scholars for purposeful social agency to and through graduation from four-year colleges and universities.

OVERVIEW:  Vision

In preparing our scholars for graduation from college, West Denver Prep SMART provides a challenging and relevant liberal arts educational community that fosters disciplined inquiry in tandem with critical and innovative thinking.  To this end, West Denver Prep SMART promotes a foundational mastery and appreciation of the hard sciences, advanced mathematical reasoning and problem solving, as well as the production of exemplary artifacts from the humanities.  Lastly, West Denver Prep SMART honors its numerous forms of diversity, and we provide supplemental opportunities for our scholars to act upon their social agency with dignity and purpose.

Core Beliefs:  As a network, West Denver Prep supports every scholar who chooses to enter through our doors by passionately committing to Three Core Beliefs:

  1. Every scholar deserves a demanding, standards-based education.
  2. Accountable community develops character.
  3. Great educators are essential for academic excellence.

These three Core Beliefs underpin our entire school design, for college readiness is the goal of a West Denver Prep SMART education. This simple commitment drives the development of our school and the daily execution of our mission.
  
West Denver Prep SMART will consider candidates for the listed content area positions who:

  • Are dedicated to educational success for (first-generation college-bound) urban students of color;
  • Have the highest commitment to improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration, best practices, and regular assessment; exhibit a growth mindset and unconditional resolve for setting up all scholars for success;
  • Are dedicated to leading a year-long SMART Advisory and SMART Seminar;
  • Communicate effectively with scholars, parents, and colleagues;
  • Hold a B.A./B.S. degree in subject area intended to teach preferably with demonstrated qualitative and quantifiable success in a similar educational setting;
  • Speak Spanish or have experience working with bilingual students (preferred).
  • Have urban teaching experience (preferred).

West Denver Prep SMART Educators commit to ensuring that all of our scholars attain an excellent and purposeful education on the path toward college completion.  The Commitment to College Completion Contract is signed by all incoming scholars, educators and families each school year.  The educators’ responsibilities in the West Denver Prep SMART Commitment to College Completion include:

  • We will attend and participate in all staff meetings and professional development.
  • We will teach West Denver Prep SMART scholars in the best way we know how, and we will exhibit an unconditional resolve for empowering our scholars to learn by providing them with our appropriate contact information for questions about homework after school.
  • We will always make ourselves available to work with scholars and parents, and we will address any concern(s) they might have.
  • We will be the first to both correct and congratulate with context for our scholars.
  • We will provide tutorials for our scholars to support their learning.
  • We will respond to communication from scholars, parents, and fellow staff members within 24 hours.
  • We will always protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the classroom.
  • We will provide a challenging and relevant college prep curriculum along with necessary support in order to prepare our West Denver Prep SMART scholars for unconditional acceptance into and graduation from a four- year college or university.
