Job Description:

West Denver Preparatory Charter School, a successful charter school network of four Denver schools serving predominantly students of color from low-income families, will operate six middle school campuses and one high school campus in the 2012-2013 school year serving approximately 1,700 students.  West Denver Prep seeks to build upon strong academic student progress, intense community demand, strong school leadership and capacity, and a clear vision for urban school reform.

Assistant Principals will support this work at each campus.  The Assistant Principal will report to the Principal and assume significant leadership responsibilities in areas of school culture and effective building systems.

Academic Program Primary Responsibilities:

  • Observe classes, deliver feedback, and support teachers’ professional goals as appropriate with the guidance of the Directors of Curriculum & Instruction (DCI) and Principal.
  • Implement appropriate student interventions, including push-in, pull-out, and tutoring interventions for students with the guidance of the DCIs.
  • Support DCIs and Principals with standardized test administration.

Academic Program Performance Indicators may include:

  • 50% of 7th grade students in year 2, and 75% of 8th grade students in year 3, achieve proficiency on CSAP tests of reading, writing, mathematics, and science.
  • The average annual increase of percentile points on the Stanford 10 tests of reading, writing, and mathematics will increase by an average of 5 points per year.
  • Students enter and succeed in college-preparatory high schools programs.

School Culture Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement and oversee effectively, building-wide, consistent student discipline system.
  • Implement character education program.
  • Provide daily leadership of community gatherings that set tone for academic program
  • Implement engaging extracurricular offerings for students in sports, arts, and other areas of interest.
  • Oversee logistical aspects of tutoring program, including student data tracking and student placement.
  • Oversee Response to Intervention (RTI) process and Student Intervention Team (SIT)

School Culture Performance Indicators may include:

  • Student discipline issues are handled quickly, fairly, and with a strong emphasis toward preserving classroom learning.
  • Daily and weekly community gatherings showcase student learning, teach self-advocacy and public speaking skills, and strengthen school community.
  • Students engage in extracurricular activities, participate actively in the school community, and maintain strong morale.
  • Students in need of tutoring receive interventions promptly and appropriately.
  • RTI process and SIT meet regularly, respond quickly and effectively to student needs, and support teachers with an efficient referral process.

Community Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a high level of parent satisfaction.
  • Ensure a high level of parent participation.
  • Ensure excellent student attendance.
  • Manage external partnerships.

Community Performance Indicators may include:

  • Parent Satisfaction, as measured by their satisfaction with the academic program and the clear and open communication of the staff, will exceed 85% annually.
  • Ensure a 90% rate of return on survey of parent satisfaction.
  • Ensure that 90% of parents attend at least one event at the school.
  • Daily student attendance will exceed 95%.
  • External partners, including enrichment partners and student support partners, are actively engaged in the culture of the school and add value to students.

Assistant Principal candidates should demonstrate proven school leadership skills in urban settings with an emphasis on data-driven instruction and demonstrable gains in student achievement.  Advanced degree and Spanish proficiency preferred.

This position will begin on July 16, 2012.  Compensation is highly competitive; teachers are eligible to participate in the Denver Public Schools Retirement System.  West Denver Prep is an equal opportunity employer.
