Work Year: 2012-2013
Job Description:Job Description:
At KIPP Colorado Schools, demographics don’t determine destiny.
About KIPP Colorado Schools
KIPP Colorado Schools is a fast-growing network of open-enrollment, public, college-preparatory charter schools. KIPP Colorado Schools are staffed with outstanding educators and have a strong culture of achievement and support in order to help our students make significant academic gains. KIPP Colorado Schools currently operates a middle school and a high school in southwest Denver and a middle school in northeast Denver, and has a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. The organization is preparing for significant growth in the coming years. KIPP Colorado Schools is affiliated with the national KIPP Network (Knowledge is Power Program), which recruits and trains school leaders to open KIPP schools across the country. The KIPP network is rapidly growing, with 109 schools currently operating throughout the US.
Position Overview
The principal at KIPP Denver Collegiate (KDC) is part of KIPP Colorado Schools’ leadership team and is responsible for leading and developing a dynamic faculty who will prepare our students to succeed to and through college and lead lives of choice and opportunity. Like at KIPP schools across the country, the principal will set a powerful vision for student achievement and will strategically implement the school’s mission through effective leadership and management of all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, student, parents, and the community. The principal is responsible for managing and overseeing all functions of the individual school site including all aspects of the instructional program, school environment, and the operational and fiscal health of the school. The principal is an active member of KIPP Colorado’s regional leadership team and principal community of practice. The principal reports to the Chief Academic Officer at KIPP Colorado Schools and receives support from the Chief Academic Officer and the Regional Office.
KDC will be in its fourth year in 2012-2013, with its first senior class. The school is positioned to be Colorado’s first 90/90/90 high school – 90% students of color, 90% low-income, and 90% (or more) on their way to and through college. Given that Colorado has the largest gap in the nation between whites and non-whites who hold post-secondary degrees, this position is of importance to our students and to our community. Just over half of the students at KDC come from college-preparatory middle schools. The school is known for its early gains in reading proficiency levels, its commitment to service learning, and its strong and positive student culture. KDC has made early investments in technology and if the new leadership is interested in pursuing a blended learning model to achieve results, KIPP Colorado is prepared to support that interest.
