Job Description:DSST Public Schools seeks teachers who possess a track record of elevating student achievement to join our team of results driven educators. DSST Public Schools Overview
DSST Public Schools (DSST) is a network of high performing charter schools (6th through 12th grade) in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 2004 as the Denver School of Science and Technology at its Stapleton campus, DSST has boasted the highest performance and growth in Denver Public Schools. The continued success of the DSST network has gained local and national attention, including recognition as one of three top finalists in the 2010 President’s Commencement Challenge, and a 2010 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show when Oprah’s Angel Network awarded one million dollars to DSST as one of six top charter school networks nationally. DSST currently operates five schools, located on three campuses throughout Denver.
Core Responsibilities:
Classroom Teaching
•Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for the assigned academic subjects and classes
•Plan and implement an appropriately focused and balanced curriculum for each student which adheres to the school's curriculum and standards.
•Work to implement and master DSST Public Schools’ core instructional practices
Curriculum and Assessment
•To implement a variety of assessments that measure progress towards learning outcomes and that adhere to the DSST Assessment Framework.
•To use assessment data to adapt curriculum and instructional practices to help students meet the school's performance standards. Such use of data includes re-teach weeks, spiraling skills, and changing daily instruction to meet student needs.
School Life
•To model, live, and reinforce the school’s core values and policies inside and outside the classroom.
•To perform as an advisor to a group of advisees by overseeing their academic and student life. This responsibility includes taking attendance, holding regular conferences, meeting with advisee’s parents and communicating with student and parent regularly, leading reading circles, overseeing digital portfolios, and overseeing advisory competition activities.
Professional Development
•To devote the necessary time and energy required to master the craft of teaching. To be open to innovative approaches to teaching, feedback from colleagues and school administration.
•To actively participate in the school’s professional development programs including data analysis and planning, leading and participating in best practice sessions, peer coaching, and attending conferences.
Required Experience:
DSST Public Schools seeks candidates with strong character, passion for excellence and a relentless commitment to student achievement. Applicants for teaching positions in core subject areas (Math, Science, English, History, Spanish and Art) should generally meet the following requirements: The equivalent of a college major in the subject area to be taught (at least 24 credit hours) OR, a passing score on the appropriate subject-area Praxis or Place exam, OR a Colorado teaching license. Candidates should have a 3.0 college grade point average or higher. Teaching experience is preferred, but not required.

NOTE: 7TH & 9TH GRADES OPENING FALL 2011. This program is modeled closely after the Denver School of Science and Technology's first middle school in Stapleton which was the highest performing middle school in Denver Public Schools last year. The DSST Green Valley Ranch campus has a college preparatory focus and an emphasis on developing core liberal arts skills (reading, writing, mathematics) with a focus on the life and health sciences. This program prepares students for the rigorous high school program at DSST GVR Campus, acceptance to a four year college, and a future professional career in the health and life sciences if a student chooses.
