Mission
The Ricardo Flores Magón Academy prepares kindergarten through eighth grade students from Metro Denver for success in high school and graduation from college.  In an intellectually rigorous environment, students will master the core subjects maximizing their knowledge in math, reading, and writing

Position Summary
The Head of School is the primary leadership of the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy.  He/She is hired by and directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer, and is primarily responsible for the school’s success, academic achievement, rigorous culture, financial viability, organizational structure, and the institution’s reputation.

Responsibilities
Leadership:
•    Embody and advocate the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the school
•    Develop and communicate the school’s vision and create a strategic plan to achieve that vision
•    Create, monitor, and sustain high standards of a rigorous school climate and school culture
•    Concentrate on achieving dramatic improvements in student academic performance
•    Ensure that every classroom is one of rigorous academic performance and superb teaching
•    Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and on all Board committees, providing them in a timely manner with the essential data, relevant reports, and information necessary to govern a school
•    Promote the school passionately and effectively to the community and media
•    Serve as a role model for the staff, students, parents, and visitors
•    Lead community meetings, town hall meetings, faculty meetings, and administrative-team meetings
•    Fulfill the mission of the school with no excuses or exceptions

Administrative:
•    Evaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student and teacher performance
•    Manage and allocate the finances of the school (budget, cash flow, development, grants, contracts, bonuses, etc.) effectively and efficiently in order to maximize student success
•    Comply with the charter accountability requirements, and all relevant federal, state, and city regulations
•    Handle all matters regarding recruitment, employment and dismissal of personnel, salaries and contracts, job assignments, performance evaluation, and orientation and training
•    Document and disseminate the school’s academic and operational processes
•    Create and manage a staff and student code of conduct
•    Work with the CEO, Board of Trustees and the administrative team to marshal resources for long term financial viability
•    Work with the CEO, Board of Trustees and the administrative team to raise funds in order to support regular academic and extracurricular programs
•    Ensure that all documents that leave the school (financial or otherwise) are at a professional level and are aligned with the mission of the institution

Teaching and Learning:
•    With the Director of Instruction and Curriculum, conduct weekly staff development trainings that are pertinent to the teachers classroom instruction
•    Observe classrooms weekly with the Principal, and give feedback for individual improvement
•    Observe other high performing schools and school leaders on a quarterly basis and continuously use such visits to improve the culture, curriculum, and academic success of the school
 
Qualifications
•    Experience in education, strategic planning, staff development, board relations, financial management, and operations
•    Motivated individual that has a successful track record with creating new programs
•    A B.A./B.S. is required, but an M.A./M.S. is preferred
•    Analytical problem-solver and solutions-oriented strategic thinker who has overcome complex organizational challenges in the face of difficult opposition
•    Proven track record with fiscal management, and has a great level of comfortability working with budgets, finance plans, and spreadsheets
•    Results-driven educational leader with experience in, and commitment to, standards-based curriculum and the use of data and assessments to drive instructional decisions
•    Commitment to educating inner-city youth with high expectations
•    Experience working with Latinos and English Language Learners
•    Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
•    High level of personal and professional integrity
•    Experience working in inner-city schools, and in particular with Latino populations
•    Incredibly energetic leader, with a proven commitment to excellence in his/her career

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be extremely competitive and commensurate with experience.  The position includes full benefits, comprising of medical, dental, and retirement.  Medical and dental plans can be utilized after 30 days of employment for the 2011/2012 school year, with the option of including immediate family members for an extra cost to the employee.

Start Date
An exceptional candidate will begin immediately in a part-time/internship role and move to a full-time role no later than July 1, 2012.  The position will remain open until filled, and a two-year contract will be offered to an outstanding candidate.
