Mission
The Ricardo Flores Magón Academy prepares kindergarten through eighth grade students from Metro Denver for success in high school and graduation from college.  In an intellectually rigorous environment, students will master the core subjects maximizing their knowledge in math, reading, and writing

Position Summary
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) at the Ricardo Flores Magón Academy is the school’s instructional leader. He/She is highly focused on the academic achievement of the school, and will ensure academic success by monitoring classrooms, providing feedback and instructional support for teachers, helping to develop and supplement the curriculum, analyzing student data, and making sure that the school’s curriculum is in alignment with district and state educational standards.

Responsibilities
Leadership:
•    Embody and advocate the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the school
•    Focus on academic performance, and ensuring that the school is at a level of excellence
•    Assist in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, evaluating, and retaining outstanding faculty members
•    Serve on the administrative team, providing the Head of School with all relevant data, reports, and information to effectively manage the school
•    Serve as the primary instructional coach for the faculty, providing daily observations, feedback and support on instructional methods, classroom management, and curriculum
•    Design and implement a coherent research-based curriculum in the six core subjects
•    Implement external and internal assessment systems, including the TCAP test, and use data to inform decisions
•    Create, monitor, and sustain high standards of a rigorous school climate and school culture
•    Concentrate on achieving dramatic improvements in student academic and civic performance
•    Ensure that every classroom is one of rigorous academic performance and superb teaching
•    Serve as a role model for the staff, students, parents, and visitors
•    Fulfill the mission of the school with no excuses or exceptions

Administrative:
•    Evaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student and teacher performance
•    Provide all necessary resources, training, and materials to the teaching staff to effectively raise student academic and civic achievement
•    Set and monitor core subject grading policies and practices to ensure consistency across the school
•    Design the school’s academic standards, benchmarks, assessments, and curriculum to align with district, state, and national standards
•    Coordinate administration of all standardized evaluations including weekly assessments, Stanford 10, TCAP, and other standardized exams
•    Comply with the charter accountability requirements, and all relevant federal, state, and city regulations
•    Document and disseminate the school’s curriculum units and academic processes
•    Mediate and manage conflicting demands on the teaching staff
•    Set and monitor the teaching schedule for the faculty
•    Assist in preparing and submitting timely reports and evaluations to all external agencies and funding sources as required
•    Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of School

Teaching and Learning:
•    Assist in conducting weekly staff development trainings that support teachers classroom instruction
•    Observe classrooms daily and give formal and informal feedback for individual improvement
•    Observe other high performing schools and school leaders on a quarterly basis and utilize such visits to improve student achievement in the school
 
Qualifications
•    Experience in education, with a minimum of 3 years of teaching; former principal experience is preferred
•    Teacher or principal history that has demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state averages
•    Manager of an urban classroom that has successfully used discipline, structure, positive incentives, and high expectations to achieve measurable academic and urban success
•    Ability to select professional development sessions and teach model lessons in various subjects
•    Proven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of teachers
•    Ability to prioritize, multi-task, delegate, and lead by example
•    Ambitious, and interested in growing as an educational leader
•    Motivated individual that has a successful track record with creating new programs
•    A B.A./B.S. is required; an M.A./M.S. is preferred
•    Analytical problem-solver and solutions-oriented strategic thinker who has overcome complex organizational challenges in the face of difficult opposition
•    Results-driven educational leader with experience in, and commitment to, standards-based curriculum and the use of data and assessments to drive instructional decisions
•    Commitment to educating inner-city youth with high expectations
•    Experience working with Latinos and English Language Learners
•    Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
•    High level of personal and professional integrity
•    Experience working in inner-city schools, and in particular with high Latino populations
•    Incredibly energetic leader, with a proven commitment to excellence in his/her career
•    Experience with district and state educational standards
•    Passionate and completely dedicated to Ricardo Flores Magón Academy’s mission and a steadfast belief that all students deserve a college preparatory education

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be extremely competitive and commensurate with experience.  The position includes full benefits, comprising of medical, dental, and retirement.  Medical and dental plans can be utilized after 30 days of employment for the 2011/2012 school year, with the option of including immediate family members for an extra cost to the employee.

Start Date
An exceptional candidate will begin immediately in a part-time/internship role and move to a full-time role no later than July 1, 2012.  The position will remain open until filled, and a two-year contract will be offered to an outstanding instructional leader.
