SUMMARY

The Secondary School Principal at PRA will provide instructional, operational, and administrative leadership necessary to ensure success.  The Secondary School Principal works with the Board of Directors, the Elementary School Principal and the School leadership team in driving the school’s vision and mission to positively impact student learning. 

 

The Secondary School Principal is expected to guide staff in understanding and implementing the Core Knowledge Sequence across each grade level and content area.  He or she organizes, administers, supervises, and evaluates all aspects of the school’s design within the school and the greater school community. The Secondary School Principal will be held accountable for the continuous improvement of the school and its staff in relation to increased student achievement.

 

The Secondary School Principal is responsible for planning improvements that directly address the school’s accountability. These improvements include but are not limited to, student performance, instructional processes, financial management, and community support.

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

  1. Serves as an academic leader for the secondary school community:

 

  • Implements the middle and high school curriculum, instruction, and assessment in a manner consistent with PRA’s mission statement
  • Provide leadership in the formulation and annual adjustment of the school’s instructional and program plans
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to the implementation of the school’s instructional and program plans
  • Provide instructional leadership in advancing proven teaching and learning practices, and implementing the Core Knowledge sequence
  • Set standards for student achievement
  • Observe instruction regularly
  • Monitor student growth and achievement
  • Supervise and evaluate staff to ensure quality instruction and student achievement
  • Ensure that continuous improvement is guided by student academic standards; school performance standards; and concrete data from school, state, and local assessments
  • Ensure a safe and orderly environment

 

  1. Develop and manage the school budget, alongside the Business Manager
  2. Supervise all operations involving the management of the school, including school funds, district funds, payroll, purchases, inventories, and office operations
  3. Maintain complete and accurate records of the entire school program
  4. Establish and maintain close working relationship with the PRA Board of Directors
  5. Work with School Accountability Committee to complete and present the annual school’s progress report to staff, students, families, board, and community.
  6. Serve as a spokesperson for the school in the community and elsewhere
  7. Ensure compliance with policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers.
  8. Manage student recruitment and enrollment process

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • Advanced degree (Masters Required) in Education
  • Five (5) years of appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience
  • Certified (or eligible for certification) as a school Principal
  • Prior experience with Core Knowledge preferred
  • Prior experience in charter school preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy and expectation documents, staff agreements, evaluation rubrics, curriculum maps and materials, and student assessment documents. Ability to effectively document classroom observations, analyze data to improve instructional practices and correspond with staff from all levels. Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, and parents.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The hours may be long when specific needs arise, thus some extended schedules will be necessary. This is a position that must attend to the needs of staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors and parents. Work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work required from time to time. Prospect Ridge Academy is a dynamic school subject to changing work environments, adaptation of new educational principles and values, and shifting culture. Adaptability to change is essential.
