Elementary Principal Search
Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy seeks an exceptionally qualified educator for the position of Principal for our Kindergarten through Fourth grade program.
About CMCA
The Mission of Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy is to help guide students in development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs.
CMCA is a K-12 college preparatory public charter school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. CMCA has enjoyed great success in its mission at all levels since its inception in 1995. Based on the Colorado Student Assessment Program, all programs of CMCA have been ranked near the top in the state for several years. Our high school program, The Vanguard School, has been the top performing school in Colorado for the past three years.
At the elementary level, CMCA employs one teacher and one instructional aide for every classroom of 27 students. Students in K-6 are taught in small groups organized by academic achievement level for math, reading and spelling. Students are assessed regularly and move between groups as necessary to ensure they are being challenged and are achieving mastery.
CMCA uses the Core Knowledge curriculum and Direct Instruction teaching methodology. Reading is taught using phonics and the Reading Mastery basal series. The math program incorporates Connecting Math Concepts and Saxon Math. Students in grades 7 and 8 transition from the elementary to our high school program by reading advanced literature and studying algebra, physical and life sciences, and American History. The Vanguard School utilizes the Hillsdale Academy Curriculum to provide a strong classical liberal arts and sciences education.
A no-excuses philosophy establishes the foundation for the teacher in the classroom. If a student hasn’t learned, then the teacher has not taught. Academic expectations for students are high. Standards for teachers are even higher. Students are taught to mastery, and grades are based on achievement, not a bell curve distribution.
Students receive positive reinforcement for good behavior and performance. Expectations are proactively and explicitly taught and are consistently enforced throughout the school. Rigorous programs fill the day and prevent down-time that can spawn inappropriate behaviors. Major disciplinary actions are virtually non-existent.
All K-8th grade students wear uniforms throughout the year. High school students adhere to a conservative dress code.
The CMCA board, composed of four parents and one community member, sets policy and provides governance to maintain the mission of the school. The board provides long-term planning goals, works on issues related to the growth plan, and provides executive level management to the administration. The board entrusts a high level of autonomy and responsibility to the administration.
The Position
The CMCA K-4 Principal is responsible for the administration and results of all programs and activities that are appropriately associated with the K-4 program. This includes student academic achievement, student welfare and safety, parent satisfaction, and staff hiring and development. Additionally, the Principal will oversee the administration of state and national standardized testing and present reports of academic results. The Principal will oversee the management of the building and facilities and all technological systems that contribute to the success of the school.
The Principal reports directly to the Executive Director and is supported by an Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction. The Principal participates in regular monthly and ad hoc board meetings, leads the Building Accreditation, Accountability and Advisory Committee, participates in the District Accreditation, Accountability and Advisory Committee, actively supports the Parent Teacher Organization, actively supports and solicits parent volunteers, and supports the various parent activities that contribute to the success of the school.
