    Job Description: 
    The Director of Instruction reports to the Executive Director and assists in the day-to-day management of the school and its instructional resources.  The Director of Instruction supervises the work of Synchronous Tutors and Advisors, and acts as an instructional leader to ensure that the staff and school is successful in addressing academic achievement for all students.  This is a 12-month full-time position, and evening and weekend hours will also be required in order to communicate with families and staff members on an as-needed basis.

    Main Responsibilities:
    Staff Selection, Development and Evaluation
    • Interview and make recommendations for hiring decisions for all instructional staff based on ability, qualifications, past performance and school needs
    • Oversee staff induction and training programs as required by the state
    • Evaluate the performance of all instructional staff
    • Lead professional development activities and coordinate programs that increase staff expertise and knowledge and contribute to student achievement
    • Monitor staff through the EdisonLearning™ eSchoolware to ensure quality instruction and student achievement
    • Ensure that all instructional staff hold and maintain appropriate licensure

    Student Achievement
    • Establish high expectations for student achievement and communicate these expectations through a variety of methods (newsletters, presentations, memos) to internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis
    • Monitor student progress throughout the year using eSchoolware and prepare reports for the Executive Director to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
    • Use data from the eSchoolware system to monitor and analyze program effectiveness, and lead the development of interventions and solutions with the Advisors and Synchronous Tutors
    • Partner with the Director of Special Education to implement the Response to Intervention model
    • Ensure that continuous improvement is guided by student academic standards, school performance standards, data from local and state formative assessments, and that activities and programs address the achievement of all students
    • Measure baseline graduation rates and develop and monitor programs in successive years that focus on improving the graduation rate of students.

    Technology
    • Work with staff to identify problems and issues and generate solutions
    • Work with internal technology staff and EdisonLearning technical support staff to implement and monitor solutions

    School Oversight and Operations
    • Support the Executive Director with development and implementation of  the mission and vision of the school
    • In tandem with the Executive Director and other key EdisonLearning stakeholders, provide leadership  in identifying and solving issues and problems facing the Provost Academy program
    • Participate in student recruitment and registration activities to help the school meet enrollment goals.
    • Facilitate communication and build professional relationships with EdisonLearning and the Board of Directors through phone calls, email, memos, meeting agendas, reports, presentations, and handout materials
    • Coordinate administration and proctoring of CSAP testing
    • Participate as lead administrator for all IEP/IDEA related meetings in a synchronous online environment
    • Assist the Executive Director in leading staff meetings and communicate frequently with staff members

    Professional Knowledge
    • Demonstrate knowledge of state standards, testing requirements and graduation requirements across core content and electives
    • Implement knowledge of online instructional strategies
    • Exhibit knowledge of school management, operation and law
    • Understand the teaching and learning process
    • Maintain current knowledge regarding Colorado teacher certification and highly qualified requirements and definitions
    • Participate in professional activities and organizations

    Maintenance of the Virtual Academy Learning Environment
    • Commit to the use of cutting-edge technology
    • Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletter and events
    • Communicate with colleagues and supervisors on a regular basis
    • Maintain confidentiality as required by the company and by law

    Job Qualifications/Experience/Education: 
    •Colorado Principal or Administrator License
    • Minimum five years teaching experience and 2 years school leadership experience
    • Masters Degree in Education Technology or Instructional Design highly preferred
    • Experience teaching or participating in an e-learning/online learning course required
    • Strong written and verbal skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
    • Proficiency with multimedia communication and technology tools, such as discussion boards, web logs, email, instant messaging and audio podcasts
    • Ability and availability to travel within the state approximately two days per month and to other states every few months
    • High degree of flexibility
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
