Job Description:About KIPP Denver Collegiate High School
KIPP Denver Collegiate High School (KDCHS) is part of KIPP Colorado Schools, a fast-growing network of open-enrollment, public, college-preparatory charter schools affiliated with the national KIPP Network (Knowledge is Power Program). KIPP Colorado Schools are staffed with outstanding educators and have a strong culture of achievement and support in order to help our students make significant academic gains. KIPP Colorado Schools currently operates a middle school and a high school in Denver and has a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. KDCHS opened in 2009 with 9th grade and a goal of becoming Colorado’s first 90/90/90 high school; 90% of our students are low-income, 90% are non-white ethnic minorities, and 90% (or more!) are on the path to college. KDCHS will add one grade level each year to become a comprehensive high school. Our mottos are “Enter to Learn. Exit to Lead.” and “Built for Others.”
About the Director of Student Services Position
This position will become a key member of the KDCHS team, working with teachers, students, and external partners to develop and implement the “Built for Others” program while also creating programming and supports to meet the varied needs of our students.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Built for Others
· Develop and implement a comprehensive program that engages students in meaningful and academically relevant service learning activities
· Work with teachers to use service as an instructional strategy to meet learning goals and/or content standards
· Engage students in planning, implementing, and evaluating service-learning experiences
· Assess and develop partnerships with outside agencies and organizations in order to provide opportunities for students including internships, mentoring, etc.
School and Student Support
· Work with Dean of Students and other staff to manage academic scheduling and grade reporting systems
· Serve as the Site Administration Leader (SAL) for delivery of state and school-specific assessments
· Work with KIPP Colorado Director of Development to secure opportunities for students to travel on content-specific field lessons
· Work with KIPP Colorado Director of KIPP Through College to establish and maintain relationships with local and national colleges
· Liase with KDCHS Social Worker to ensure that all students have necessary social supports
· Provide administrative support for KDCHS Dean of Students and School Leader
Families and Community
· Establish systems of communication that fully engage families in the school community
· Plan events to draw families and community members in to KDCHS
· Work with KDCHS School Leader and KIPP Colorado Executive Director to develop an organization-wide family engagement plan
Qualifications
· Bachelors degree required, with a strong preference for academic of professional experience with service learning
· At least two years experience working with high school and/or middle school students, preferably in a low-income or high-needs population
· Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities for first-generation college students
· Experience engaging and representing an organization in external settings with both poise and passion
· Experience managing community partnerships; preference for a high level of familiarity with Denver nonprofit and social service agencies
· Experience in a start-up environment or proven outcomes launching a new program
· Previous leadership experience in a school or non-profit setting.
· Strong organization and planning skills
· High degree of initiative, vision, creativity, and tenacity
· Strong work-ethic, exceptional leadership and flexibility, and proven written and verbal communication skills across a wide variety of stakeholders (students, teachers, families, funders, etc.)
· Spanish/English bilingual and experience working with Latino and undocumented families
The Director of Student Services will begin work July 1. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Employee benefits include medical, dental, and participation in PERA.
