    Job Description:

    GENERAL SUMMARY
    This position develops and oversees operations that support our academic programs. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the DO is responsible for the effective and efficient operations in all non-academic areas, especially targeting facilities management, food service, and school/community relations. Additional areas of responsibility include finance and enrollment, allowing other members of the team to focus on academic excellence.

    The DO plans and manages the activities and operations of the facility, including land use planning, construction and facilities maintenance, and program operations. The DO will supervise construction of new buildings and facilities and the reconstruction of existing facilities and buildings, as well as direct maintenance, energy management, and land use master planning.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Support maintenance of the building and grounds, including facilities renovations.
    • Train and manage operations staff.
    • Support the Head of School in planning for future improvements of the facilities.
    • Serve with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
    • Help create the annual budget.
    • Coordinate and supervise the daily use of the school facilities for activities, both academic and nonacademic.
    • Plan and manage the effective use of the facility, including after-school and summer programs as well as rental opportunities.
    • Plan and direct building security.
    • Conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
    • Participate in school disaster preparedness and safety information programs.
    • Ensure the safe operation of the physical plant and the general welfare of all students, staff, parents, and patrons on or about the school grounds.
    • Manage food services.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, state and federal demands, and authorizer requirements.
    • Manage the student recruitment process, including coordinating marketing, and enrollment.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, or business administration.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of operation management experience.
    • Two years of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred.
    • Strong technical office skills, including fluency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Must have motivational skills to inspire staff, facilitate teamwork, support innovation and serve as a positive role model.
    • Must have a demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership by including vision, goals, purpose, cultures and values to promote learning.
    • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; able to utilize variety of process skills for planning, implementation and problem solving in an effective efficient manner.
    • A proven ability to establish and maintain a participatory management system with shared decision-making including staff, parents, and community.
    • Must be able to work and communicate successfully with the entire school community and to develop parental and community involvement for a diverse community.
    • Knowledge of federal and state legal and regulatory policies and issues pertaining to education requiring compliance.
    • Experience and/or knowledge regarding managing elementary or secondary budget and resources allocation.
    • Ability to develop and maintain a positive learning environment in which positive appropriate behavior is enforced and discipline problems are minimized.
    • Must be available in an emergency.
    • Must be physically able to fulfill all performance requirements of the position and be able to lift 30 pounds.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the school’s mission.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Job requires high activity level that includes movement throughout the building.
    • Active involvement with student activities.
    • May involve personal contact with children who may be seated on the floor or at low tables.
    • Support for janitorial tasks as need such as vacuuming, cleaning tables and light lifting of boxes.
    • Frequent work with computer keyboard, monitor and other visual technology.

    HOURS OF WORK / WORKING CONDITIONS
    • This is a twelve (12) month position that will require more than 40 hours per week, on an at-will employment basis.
    • Director will be required to be on-campus from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year (hours may change during summer months), and the addition of staff and board meetings, and any applicable off-campus meetings or trainings during or beyond the regular school day.
    • No extended travel will be required
