Friends’ School is an independent, nonsectarian school for students in Preschool (age 3) through grade five (age 11).  Founded in 1987, it was initially run by a small group of dedicated parents who envisioned a school where children are revered for who they are and where the whole child is educated - head, hand and heart. Today, Friends’ continues this vision. In a diverse community students are challenged to reach their potential through experimentation, exploration and direct instruction in an experiential environment that strives for academic excellence, creative expression and social responsibility. Friends' has small multi-age classes with low student/teacher ratios and an active, involved parent community.

The daily operations of the school are led by the Head of School and fulfilled by the teaching and administrative staff.  Friends’ teachers are experts in their field, committed to growth and lifelong learning. Substantial staff development is encouraged on and off campus. Teachers are admired as caring, nurturing, creative individuals who respect children and learning.

Since 2005, Friends’ School has been a designated agency of the Colorado Department of Education offering a unique program to aspiring teachers. The program provides them with practical classroom teaching experience and coursework and enables teacher candidates to attain a Colorado teaching license. Through a partnership with the University of Colorado at Denver, they may also attain a Master’s degree. Currently there are over thirty teacher candidates in the program. Seven of them are placed at Friends, with the remainder placed in both public and private schools.

Friends’ is located in Boulder, Colorado in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just 35 miles northwest of Denver. Home of the University of Colorado's main campus and the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder sits 5,430 feet above sea level and is surrounded by a greenbelt of city parks and open spaces.  Boulder is known for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, diverse businesses, and technological and academic resources.

Friends’ is fully accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

Friends’ School is seeking a Head of School to begin July 2011.  Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.  Friends’ School is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability or national and ethnic origin in its hiring practices.
