Research and Performance Management

Creating a Data-Driven School Culture

“Focus on Individual Strategies that Benefit the Collective Whole”

Charter schools strive to promote student progress towards college and career readiness. The Colorado League of Charter Schools’ (“the League’s”) Research and Performance Management division (formerly the Quality and Accountability department) assists member schools and their authorizers in setting goals, measuring results, and implementing data management and assessment strategies. League members use this data for programmatic improvement, resulting in high-quality public charter schools for children. The League also provides joint procurement and trainings related to data management practices and systems.

For more information, contact Jody Ernst at 303-989-5356, ext. 102 or Tisha Bouwmeester at 303-989-5356, ext. 106.

Accountability Planning and Goal Setting

The League works with staff, board members and authorizers of member schools to help them navigate the complex accountability environment in Colorado. The League helps guide them on the path to meeting both internal (school improvement) and external (public information and oversight) accountability needs.

Data Management and Assessment Strategies

The League assists its member schools in developing and implementing data management and assessment strategies. Through this program, leaders determine their school’s needs and capacities and evaluate the functionality, costs, and ease of implementing prospective systems.

Document Review and Preparation

The League offers its member schools assistance in the review and preparation of important documents such as renewal applications and contracts, and performance reports.

Custom Support

The League offers performance management and data analysis expertise to help member schools systematically generate and manage information about their strengths and challenges for the purposes of evaluation, improvement, and accountability.

Resources/Links:

  • Alpine Achievement Systems - A Colorado-based data management company that has produced three systems that work with CSAP, NWEA, and literacy data. These tools are designed to help principals and teachers use their student achievement data more effectively. These systems are being used by a number of charter schools and school districts in the state. The League has purchased a district license for Alpine and schools have the opportunity to purchase the system through the League. Please contact tbouwmeester@coloradoleague.org or 303-989-5356, ext. 106 if you are interested in purchasing the system.

  • PowerSchool - A web-based Student Information System. This tool captures valuable student information data that can be available immediately to teachers, administrators, and parents via the Internet. PowerSchool allows for easy attendance taking by teachers, produces reports both for the school and those required by the state, tracks grades and student and teacher schedules, produces report cards, and much more.

  • NWEA: Northwest Evaluation Association - A non-profit organization that developed Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) computerized adaptive assessment program. This assessment program available for grades K-10 adapts to a student's instructional level--does not frustrate students that struggle at grade level and challenges students that are ahead. Results from these assessments are available in very timely manner, individual student scores are available immediately, teacher reports are available 24 hours after testing, and school reports are available 72 hours after the testing window has closed. This assessment is used in a number of Colorado charter schools and many school districts around the state. Please contact tbouwmeester@coloradoleague.org or 303-989-5356, ext. 106 if you have questions about this assessment system.
