Frequently Asked Questions about League Membership

What is the Colorado League of Charter Schools?

The Colorado League of Charter Schools is a non-profit 501(c)(3) membership association that serves and supports nearly 150 charter schools, free public schools of choice, in a way that benefits public education as a whole. The League is focused on growing minds, demonstrating higher levels of performance, and forging the new frontier of student achievement.

Who can become a member of the League?

All charter schools in Colorado can become members of the League, provided that they meet eligibility requirements established by the League’s Board of Directors. Membership with the League reflects an individual charter school’s alignment with the League’s dedication to reaching high levels of student achievement.

How can my school apply for membership with the League?

In the beginning of each academic year, the League mails out notices that extend membership opportunities to new and existing charter schools. Each school is asked to complete a membership form (new or renewal) and submit it to the League along with a check for their annual dues.

How are membership dues determined for each school?

Each charter school is charged $4.50 per FTE student as determined by the Colorado Department of Education’s pupil count conducted in October of each academic year.

We are a group that would like to access League services but our school is not yet open. Does the League offer any programs for developing groups like us?

The League offers guidance and technical assistance for developing charter school groups. The League provides direction and training on topics such as charter application reviews, contract negotiations, and general start up support. All services are provided in accordance with the League’s Quality Standards for Developing Charter Schools.

Are all charter schools in Colorado members of the League?

Historically, nearly 100% of Colorado's charter schools decide to become members or renew their membership with the League.

WHAT THE LEAGUE IS NOT...

The League does not approve or regulate the activities and practices of charter schools. Charter schools are approved by their authorizer and oversight is provided by both the authorizer and the state.
