Facilities 2010 Task Force
Facilities 2010 Task Force to Address Charter School Facility Needs
The Colorado League of Charter Schools convened the Facilities 2010 Task Force in July 2007, with the belief that all Colorado school children deserve adequate facilities to provide a quality education. Task force members include representatives from foundations, traditional K-12 organizations, the real estate and finance community, charter school administration and governance and policymaking bodies such as the state legislature and governor's office.
We are pleased to announce the release of "Shortchanged Charters: How Funding Disparities Hurt Colorado's Charter Schools", a detailed report about the state of charter school facilities in Colorado. With the help of over 60 local charter schools that completed the Facilities 2010 Questionnaire between December-March, we were able to gather enough data to analyze and publish seven key findings, which clearly demonstrate that the sources of funding for charter schools and their facilities are inadequate.
Thank you to the participating charter schools, Hutton Architecture Studio with Paul Hutton, Facilities 2010 Task Force members Wayne Eckerling and Allen Balczarek, and League staff for the hard work and commitment that went into creating this publication. Report preparation was made possible with generous support from the Piton Foundation, the Daniels Fund, and the Walton Family Foundation.
A press conference was held on April 1, at the Colorado State Capitol. Click here to view a press release with more details.
