The 2012 Colorado Legislative session began on January 11, 2012. It's already shaping up to be a very active session around education, and, as always, the League will be very involved in advocating on behalf of charter schools.
This year, the League's legislative agenda centers around aligning policy with current practice and model law documents created by the League and national collaborative partners (www.bcsq.org). The League will also be focused on implementing the recommendations from the 1412 Committee on charter school and authorizer standards. The League hopes to streamline processes in order to create a higher level of objectivity around charter school applications, renewals and revocations, as well as incentivizing authorizers to improve their own practices.
For information about the current legislative session or policy that may affect charter schools, contact Jason Callegari, Public Affairs Associate at 303-989-5356, ext. 119.
For the lastest updates about education policy being considered during the legislative session, visit the League's page on Capitol Watch by clicking here. Be sure to check this page often as updates will continuously be posted.
The Colorado League of Charter Schools announces a webinar series designed for League member charter schools that will provide updates on current legislative activity during the session.
Please join the League's Vice President of Public Affairs Vinny Badolato for these one-hour webinar discussions on current legislative activity at the Capitol related to charter schools. Vinny will discuss specific bills the League is currently working on and will highlight some of the major issues under the gold dome that will affect charter schools. There will also be time reserved for specific questions from participants. Click here to access past, recorded webinars.
