    Description

Math Skills Institute for Teachers and Paraeducators

Offered by the Paraprofessional Research and Resource (PAR2A) Center
    University of Colorado Denver

    What is Project MSI?

Project MSI:  Mathematics Skills Institute for Paraeducators and Teachers represents a partnership between the Paraprofessional Research and Resource (PAR2A) Center housed in the School of Education and Human Development, at the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Teacher and Lead  (a state designated Alternative Licensure Program agency) and several school districts. Project MSI proposes to deliver professional development institutes on mathematics content knowledge and pedagogical skills to highly qualified paraeducators who are currently enrolled in teacher preparation programs as well as new teachers who have recently transitioned from paraeducator positions in high-need school districts. The institutes will use field-tested curriculum developed by the PAR2A Center, called CO-TOP Mathematics Education Training that aims at enhancing participants’ skills and confidence to deliver rigorous and high-quality mathematics instruction in high-need schools.  Project MSI will also provide in-classroom coaching and feedback by trained coaches who will ensure implementations of skills on the job after the participants complete the CO-TOP Mathematics training.
    What is CO-TOP?
Comprehensive Training Opportunities for Paraeducators (CO-TOP) provides training skills to school professionals and in-service training to paraeducators who work with students in a variety of educational settings.
