Charter School to Use D11 Pike Elementary Building
Date: Monday March 1,2010
School: Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning
Academy for Advanced & Creative Learning (AACL) has accepted Colorado Springs School District 11’s offer of the Pike Elementary School building for AACL’s charter school location next fall.
AACL Board President Scott Marcy noted that the school building, at 2510 N. Chestnut Street, offers a step up from previously considered properties, “It is centrally located, has a lot of open space around it, and it has a large all
purpose room.” Marcy also expressed gratitude to District 11, “We are thrilled to be able to use an existing school facility and are grateful to D11 for enabling us to put this building to great use for kids.”
AACL hopes to begin moving into the building in June. The Pike Elementary building will be shared by the District’s Records Department for the first year. AACL will serve advanced, gifted, twice-exceptional and typical learners who want to excel. In addition, the Academy will supplement the work that other schools and districts are doing to raise achievement for all students and serve as a resource and training center for other programs. AACL will open in August for the 2010-2011 school year.
Among its unique offerings, the Academy is tuition free, does not require gifted testing for admission and will develop a Personal Learning Plan for every student.
