Omni Interlocken Hotel and Resort, Broomfield, Colorado
The 18th Annual Colorado Charter Schools Conference is an opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues, peers, and experts both nationally and from Colorado. The conference includes over 60 breakout sessions on essential topics related to charter school operations and programming as well as time to network with other participants and presenters.
It is a one-stop shop to visit with and learn about product and service providers working with charter schools. More than 60 exhibitors participated in 2011 representing organizations and companies representing many areas from supplies, curriculum, construction, financing, human resources, food service and more.
It's the place to be if you are a member of the charter school community. Over 500 attendees gathered in 2011—making the conference the largest gathering of the charter school community in Colorado.

The 2011 Chipping for Charters Golf Tournament and Dinner, hosted by the Colorado League of Charter Schools was a huge success. On September 15, over 100 charter school leaders, teachers, elected officials and business leaders from across the state teed off at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in support of charter schools.
In total, the event raised over $4,600 for the Colorado League of Charter Schools’ Advocacy Fund, which provides the charter school community with timely financial and legal support, when needed, and expands quality public school opportunities for Colorado children.
Following golf was a celebratory dinner where attendees had the opportunity to learn more about how funds raised during the event are already helping Colorado charters. Judy Hite from Southwest Open School travelled from Cortez, Colorado to share with the crowd about how her charter school is benefitting from the assistance of the Charter Advocacy Fund.
Southwest Open School in Cortez is currently using proceeds from the League’s Advocacy Fund in their quest to gain voter approval for a ballot question to raise much needed bond dollars for the school. If successful, the funds raised will meet their matching requirement to receive $7.8 Million from the State’s Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant, allowing for the construction of a brand new campus for their students (after many years of operating out of modular classrooms).
Over the course of the day, golfers had the opportunity to compete for prizes, and attempt to make a hole-in-one for prizes, including $10,000. And four lucky raffle winners even took a shot at the Million Dollar hole-in-one.
While a few were close, there was, as they say, no cigar. However, Senator Scott Renfroe’s (Greeley) foursome did walk away with the tournament 1st Place trophy, along with bragging rights.
The night ended with over 20 great prizes being raffled off. Rachel Kelley (Rocky Mountain Prep) and Don Shupe (Platte River Academy) were two of the big prize winners. Rachel won an Air Force Academy Football package, complete with a blanket and two tickets to a game (donated by the Colorado Springs Gazette), while Don won a private flight and lunch to Aspen provided by Charter School Institute’s Mark Hyatt and the Colorado League of Charter Schools.
